Wow, What a Weekend!!

Well, this past weekend turned into a state champion defining weekend.  Senior, Brittany Scheidt advanced down state in the 3pt competition after advancing from her sectional top four finish.  Brittany competed Thursday afternoon at Illinois State University in Bloomington, IL.  Brittany made a total of 8 out of 15 and then she had to wait.  With being in the first flight of eight shooters, she had to wait for three more flights (24 more shooters).  It was a nerve racking experience to say the least.  She was in the top four all the way through until it came down to the last four shooters of the day.  Two of those four shooters ended up making 8 as well, which resulted in a shoot off for the final two spots.

Brittany was up first and she made 3 out of 10.  Not a bad number, but it contributed to the nervous excitement a little more.  The next shooter made 5 out of 10, so that girl was in.  It came down to one girl left.  The last girl ended up making 2 out of 10, which meant Brittany made it to the final four!!  To say that teammates, coaches and family were excited would be understatement.

Next came the shootout for the 3A crown.  Brittany drew number 1, which meant she was up first.  Brittany proceeded to make 8 out of 15 and the score to beat was set.  The next two shooters made 6 and 5 respectively, so Brittany was in first with one more shooter to go.  Out of the whole weekend, this was the most dramatic filled 45 seconds of the event.  The last shooter made 1 on the first rack (out of 5) and then made the next five in a row!  Uh oh, Brittany's number was in severe danger.  However, the girl ended up making only 1 of the last 5 balls to finish with 7.  After a brief sigh of relief, the celebration was on!  Brittany Schedit was now the 3A 3pt. State Champion!!!!!  What an amazing run for her.....so proud of Brittany.

In winning the 3A crown, this allowed Brittany to compete in the Queen of the Hill Competition against the other class winners: 1A, 2A and 4A.  A pretty cool opportunity for the chance to be the best 3pt shooter in the state of Illinois.  It was not to be.  Brittany made 4 out of 15 while the winner made 8.  Regardless of the result, Brittany had achieved something that nobody in our school had ever done before...be a 3pt State Champion.  Congrats Brittany for making history and representing Timothy Christian so well!  #WEARETC

On a side note, Brittany shot a bonus green and white ball on Saturday after her round and she made it.  What is the "bonus" all about you might ask?   Well, in making the shot, Brittany earned Timothy some cash.  Country Financial, the sponsor of the event, will be sending a check to Timothy on behalf of Brittany......pretty cool!

Be sure to check out Timothy's Facebook page as there are several pictures of Brittany from this past weekend.  Also, the Daily Herald had a nice little write-up on Brittany in Saturday's morning paper.

Congrats to Kaylie

The post season honors keep coming in and this one has much to do about the classroom as much as it does the court.  Kaylie Pries was recognized as an Honorable Mention for the IHSA All-Academic Team.  Kaylie has been a great leader for us this past year on the court and we are glad to see her get recognized for her work in the classroom as well!  Great job Kaylie!

Way to go Brittany!

Brittany Scheidt converted 8 of her 15 3pt attempts last night and that was good enough to advance downstate.  Brittany will be shooting next Thursday at 4:30pm at Illinois State University.  Awesome job Brittany.

All Conference

Congrats to Kelli LeGrand, Stephanie Kuiper and Sara Hodges for being selected to the Metro Suburban Conference All Conference Team.  We are blessed to have all three of you on our team!

Not to be.....

The Lady Trojans season came to an end this past Thursday at the hands of conference foe, Glenbard South.  The final score ended up being 43-27, but Timothy did not go lightly.  For the majority of the game, GS held a 6-8 point lead with Timothy finally cutting the deficit to 3 in the 4th quarter.  However, as was much the case all night, TC could not get a bucket to fall.  Glenbard South would finish the game on a 13-0 run (mainly free throws) as the Lady Trojans saw their season slip away.

It was a disappointing game in the fact that the entire team wish we could have shot better, but the fight was tremendous from every individual.  The coaching staff is very proud of the team for never giving in and competing to the very end.  It's always difficult to wrap up a season after a hard loss and this year was no different.

The team graduates five influential Seniors that will be missed.  We thank them for their commitment to the program and their own desire to be winners in this competitive world.  That will be a lasting trait that all of us will admire.  More importantly, the Lord has great things in store for these girls.  With their caring hearts, tender kindness and the willingness to love others, God takes great delight in knowing that His children are serving him in such a positive way.  Thank you Seniors.

The coaches would also like to thank the rest of the team for their time, energy and discipline to get through another long season.  We are extremely thankful to you all for making such a difference in our lives.  Our hope is that you continue to grow in the Lord and may that be a driving force in your years to come.

The team finished 15-12 overall, 9-3 in conference (3rd place finish) and were awarded three All-Conference players: Kelli LeGrand, Stephanie Kuiper and Sara Hodges.  Thank you ladies for a wonderful season!

Timothy Advances

Timothy traveled into the city and took part in the Prosser Regional Semi-Final Game against St. Francis.  These two teams met a week earlier at St. Francis which resulted in a St. Francis win.  Timothy knew what they were getting into and they also knew that they would have to play better to beat a good St. Francis team.

The first quarter was a good start for the Lady Trojans as they took an early 12-6 lead after one quarter of play.  The second quarter saw the lead grow to an 18-8 advantage, but St. Francis closed the half on a 6-0 run to make it 18-14 in Timothy's favor at the half.

The third quarter saw the offenses of both teams play a lot better.  TC scored a total of 12 points and St. Francis scored 14 to make the game even closer heading into the fourth quarter.  With that two point lead, it didn't last long as St. Francis ending up taking a 32-31 lead.  The fourth quarter was a back and forth affair as neither team held much more of a two point lead.  TC would take a four point lead only to see St. Francis come right back and tie it.

The game boiled down to Timothy making some clutch free throws and withstanding a few missed shots to win the game 45-44.

Sara Hodges led the way with 16 points and Stephanie Kuiper had 10.  Brittany Schedit had 6 points while Alexis Hoogendoorn chipped in 5.  Kelli LeGrand had 4pts while Kaylie Pries and Kaitlin Gehrke each had 2pts.

Timothy will now play on Thursday night vs. MSC rival Glenbard South for the Regional Championship.  The game time is set for 7:30pm.  Hope to see you out there cheering the team on!

Go TC!!

Timothy defeats Fenton

Timothy traveled up Route 83 on Thursday night to play their final conference game of season against Fenton.  Both teams came out pretty hot in the first quarter as the offense was rolling for both teams.  The second quarter saw more of the same as the game was pretty tight at the half.

Fenton came out strong in the third quarter and opened up an eight point lead at one point.  A strong finish to end the third quarter had Timothy trailing by three.  The Lady Trojans saved their best for last.  The team outscored the Bison from Fenton by a score of 15-5 to win the game 42-35.

Sara Hodges led the way with 18 points (8-10FT) and to quote Mrs. Scheidt "Sara was playing by herself out there"  Kaylie Pries chipped in 9pts while Kelli LeGrand had 6pts.  Stephanie Kuiper and Mackenzie Bone contributed 4pts (huge play from Mackenzie).

The team finished conference play with a 9-3 record and guaranteed themselves a top three finish.  Nice job ladies!

We thank them for their commitment and dedication to being hard workers, great leaders and girls who stand for Christ.

Timothy loses to R-B

The Lady Trojans traveled to R-B for a conference clash amongst two of the top three teams in the conference.  TC had not played a game since Jan. 10 and with exams taking the focus of the past week, the Lady Trojans were not ready from the start.  R-B jumped out to an early 11-3 lead rather quickly and held a 16 point lead at the half.

The second half saw a little fight in the team, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit or a hot shooting R-B team.  The final score was 64-48 in favor of the Bulldogs.  The team will now look to bounce back on Monday against a team from Wisconsin, Kenosha St. Joseph.  The Lady Trojans will be playing a part in a Martin Luther King Jr. Shootout hosted by Concordia University.  The team looks forward to this great opportunity to play on such a special day.

Brittany Scheidt and Kelli LeGrand led TC in scoring against R-B with 11 points each.  Alexis Hoogendoorn had a solid all around game with 8pts, 8reb, 3 steals while Kaylie Pries had 6pts, 6 reb.  Rounding out the day: Sarah Nelson 5pts, 2 steals, Sara Hodges 5pts, 4reb, Mackenzie Bone 2pts, 2reb, 2 assists.

TC Pulls it Out!

The game of basketball can be so simple, but oh so complex at the same time.  After coming off a huge win over Glenbard South on Tuesday, the Lady Trojans traveled to Ridgewood to play the Rebels.  Timothy knew that a good start would go a long way in setting the tone for the game, but that thought was to no avail.

Timothy struggled to score three points in the first quarter, mainly due to the fact of missed shots and turnovers.  Fortunately, Ridgewood only scored two points in the first quarter.  The second quarter saw a little better offense with both teams scoring 16 and 14 respectively.   The Lady Trojans took a three point lead into the half.

Ridgewood come out on fire and very focused as they built a double digit lead before settling for a nine point lead heading into the fourth quarter.  With Timothy still trying to find themselves in the game, the Rebels continued to play well early in the fourth and once again built a double digit lead.  About half way through the fourth, the girls stepped up their energy level and intensity and slowly began to chip away at the lead.

The final two minutes of the game was a gut check for the team.  Still down by eight points, it was now or never.  The team rallied around themselves and fought very hard to overcome the deficit.  Down four with just over a minute to go, Kaylie Pries made a lay-up to cut the deficit to two.  After a turnover by Ridgewood, Kaylie was fouled and she calmly sank two free throws to tie the game.  After another Ridgewood turnover (illegal screen), Kaylie was once again fouled.  Just like before, she sank both free throws to give the Lady Trojans a two point lead with 18 seconds left.  Somehow, Ridgewood's point guard was able to get through everyone and made a lay-up with 7 seconds left.  Kelli LeGrand quickly took the inbounds pass and dribbled ahead.  She found Sara Hodges open on the other side of the floor with a cross court pass.  Sara grabbed the pass and quickly attacked the basket.  Sara was fouled as she attempted to score a lay-up.

With 1.7 seconds left, Ridgewood called a timeout to ice Sara.  Sara was ready for this moment and she stepped to the line.  The first one went up and right through the net for a swish.  The second one was pretty much the same.  Ridgewood was unable to get a shot off and the game was over.  Timothy had pulled out a squeaker!

Sara Hodges led the way with 13 points (2FT's for the game winners), 7 steals, Kaylie Pries had 12 points (4/4 FT's) 3 assists, 3 steals, Brittany Scheidt had 11pts, 6 reb, Kelli LeGrand 7pts, 6 assists, 4 steals and Stephanie Kuiper contributed 6 reb, 3 blocks and 2 assists.

Welcome to the New Year!!

The Lady Trojans started off the New Year in grand fashion.   In hosting conference leader Glenbard South on the evening, the Lady Trojans knew they would have to play one of the better games to pull of the victory.

After a first quarter which saw the lead go back and forth several times, Glenbard South took a 11-9 lead after one.  The second quarter saw more of the same with Timothy trying to play catch up.  After the sloppiness of play, the game was tied at the half 17-17.

TC was able to regroup at a halftime and was re-energized to start the second half.  Both teams scored at pretty fast pace, unlike the first half.  Timothy scored 16 points the quarter, nearly matching their first half score.  Not to be outdone, Glenbard South scored 15 to keep the game tight heading into the fourth.

With a slim 33-32 edge, the fourth quarter turned out to be best.  Timothy did a good job of moving the ball on the offensive side and was able to come up with some timely stops on the defensive side of the ball.  This allowed the Lady Trojans to build a "lead" which was not big in this game, but an eight point advantage at one point was huge.  Timothy continued to share the ball and closed out the game is grand fashion.  After the buzzer had sounded, Timothy had the victory 47-40!

Kelli LeGrand led the way with 16points, 7 assists.  Stephanie Kuiper had 8pts, 9reb, Kaylie Pries and Sara Hodges both had 7pts while Alexis Hoogendoorn chipped in 6.  Brittany Scheidt made a huge three in the fourth to kill any momentum that Glenbard South tried to get.

To say it was good team win would be understatement.  The team collectively gave their best and were rewarded because of it.  Great job ladies!
