The Lady Trojans season came to an end this past Thursday. Much too soon for the liking of the team, but that it did. In playing Walther Lutheran, the Lady Trojans had one goal in sight. That goal.....win a Regional Championship and have the right to return to their home floor for the Sectionals. However, Walther ruined that opportunity by playing a better game than Timothy.
The first quarter got off to an interesting start with Walther not scoring a single point and Timothy holding a 7-0 lead. Even with the lead after one, Timothy was not in a flow offensively and that became evident in the second quarter. By scoring only five points in the second, Walther on the other hand got it going by scoring 16.
Trailing by four at the half, Timothy was once again committed to playing a better second half. The third quarter went back and forth with Timothy equaling Walther at 21 before a three by the Broncos ended the quarter. Trailing by three, Timothy was down to the last eight minutes to make something happen.
The fourth quarter saw more of the same, as the Lady Trojans were just unable to get anything going on the offensive end. Down by one, with just over 4:00 minutes to play, Timothy had the chance to take the lead. However, a somewhat contested lay-up would not go down and that turned out to be a momentum swing for Walther. The rest of the game turned into a free throw parade and missed shots by the Lady Trojans. The final score ended up being 40-26 and a successful season seemed frozen in time.
With the loss, it wrapped up a great season for the Lady Trojans. To begin the season, they took home the consolation championship at the IMSA tourney, rattled off a seven game win streak, took second in the Lisle Christmas Tournament, won the Conference Championship with an impressive 11-1 record and finished in the top three in the DuPage Area in team defense. As you can see, the team accomplished a lot of positives on the season and that will not go unnoticed.
The end of the season, marks the final games for our Senior class. With seven Seniors, it was truly a bittersweet night. These seven girls: Cassidy Block, Jessica Dirkse, Jasmine Stein, Michelle Ditchfield, Amber Scheidt, Ciara Hoddenbach and Tessa Bosman will go down as one of the best group of Seniors that this program has seen. They have done a tremendous job in leading this program by example. With a wonderful mixture of leadership, caring hearts and a strong desire to bring honor to God, this group will be sorely missed! Thank you Seniors for being such God fearing young women!
On an individual note, the season is not quite over for Jessica Dirkse and Kelli LeGrand. Both girls have advanced in the 3pt. competition in the state of Illinois. They will be shooting Monday night at Timothy around 7:30pm Please keep cheering these girls on as they try to advance down state!
