Lady Trojans defeat Wheaton Academy

TC opened the Lisle Tournament with a victory over Wheaton Academy by the score of 40-27. With a first half that was back and forth which saw plenty of easy baskets being scored by both teams, the Warriors from Wheaton Academy took a 22-19 led at the half. After making a few adjustments at the half, the Lady Trojans came out in the third quarter and changed the outlook on the game. TC outscored WA 17-0 which provided a comfortable lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the 4th, better basketball has been played and thanks to the 3rd quarter dominance the Lady Trojans took home the win. Tessa Bosma led all scorers with 13 points (6 rebounds) while several other players contributed on the night. Which included Cassidy Block (9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists) Jordyn Platt (9 points, 8 steals) Jessica Dirkse (5 points, 2 assists) Stephanie Kuiper (2 points, 5 rebounds) Shelly Ditchfield (2 points) and Kari LeGrand (7 steals, 3 assists).

Timothy plays again tonight at 8:00pm vs. Walther. Thanks to the wonderful crowd/fan support this evening. It's always great to see past alumni come back and cheer on the Lady Trojans.

Lady Trojans continue their winning ways

With the last game before the Christmas break, the Lady Trojans from Timothy Christian came out determined to keep their win streak alive. In playing Riverside-Brookfield, TC knew that they were going to have to play a good game in order to beat the Bulldogs. After an initial slow start at the beginning of the game, TC finished with the first quarter much better by taking a 14-8 advantage. With some nice ball movement and finishing touches around the rim the Lady Trojans took a 14 point lead into the half, 28-14. R-B responded with a little run themselves and cut the lead down to six at one point, but a couple of buckets by the Lady Trojans righted the ship and they were able to get the win, 45-35. Tessa Bosman led the way this evening by scoring 12 points, followed by Cassidy Block (9 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 assists) Jordyn Platt (6 points, 5 assists, 2 steals, 5 rebounds) Anna Wondergem (6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals) Kari LeGrand (5 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) Stephanie Kuiper (5 points, 3 rebounds) and Jessica Dirkse (2 points, 1 big block). The Lady Trojans are off for a while with their next game not until Dec. 27 at the Lisle Tournament. Please check the links section (Lisle Christmas Tourney) on the blog to find out game times and opponents.

The coaching staff and the players in the Girls Basketball Program would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. May we all find the time to reflect on the birth of our Savior and celebrate His joy, peace and love.

TC finishes the week strong

In playing their third game of week, the Lady Trojans were understandably a bit tired, but they pushed forward in beating Ridgewood 37-23. In playing in Ridgewood's new field house the Lady Trojans got off to a fast start by winning the first quarter 14-5. TC held a 20-10 advantage at halftime and pretty much kept a comfortable lead for the rest of the game. Everyone was able to see some action today and contribute in many different ways. Cassidy Block nearly had a triple double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 8 steals. Jordyn Platt also had a nice balanced game with 4 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Kari LeGrand (6 points, 3 steals), Tessa Bosman (4points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks) Renata Harris (2 points) Jessica Dirkse (2 points, 4 rebounds) Anna Wondergem (3 rebounds, 2 steals) and Stephanie Kuiper (2 points, 2 blocks) all helped out in the win. Solid Win for TC

The Lady Trojans were once again back in action against another familiar foe, Illiana Christian. With playing Chicago Christian earlier in the week, this game against Illiana was part of a pretty cool rivalry amongst the schools. Much like the Chicago Christian game, defense was the name of the game. TC came out with a focus to be relentless on the defensive front and it showed by holding Illiana to nine first half points. That mentality carried over to the second half and that was the holding force in the win. With a balanced attack offensively, the Lady Trojans took the game by a score of 37-25. Kari LeGrand (9 points, 2 steals) Stephanie Kuiper (8 points, 2 rebounds) Cassidy Block (7 points, 6 assists) Tessa Bosman (6 points 4 rebounds) Jessica Dirkse (3 points) Anna Wondergem (3 steals) Jordyn Platt (4 assists, 4 rebounds) all contributed to the win. Jordyn also led the charge in playing some great defense that was infectious to everyone.

Thanks for the great fan support this evening. Hope to see you out there again next Thursday.

The Lady Trojans play again on Saturday vs. Ridgewood at 1:30pm. The game will be played at Ridgewood.

Lady Trojans get the Win

Last night, the Lady Trojans traveled to Chicago Christian to take part in a five game extravaganza. In being the fourth game of the night, TC would end up making this game a heart stopper. After battling to a pretty even game after three quarters, the girls took a lead of six with about a minute to go. After consecutive turnovers on the Lady Trojans part, Chicago Christian capitalized and cut the lead down to two. With eight seconds to play, a shot was attempted, but thankfully it was missed and TC escaped with the win 34-32. Kari LeGrand led Timothy with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Cassidy Block (8 points, 4 steals, 5 blocks) Tessa Bosman (6 points, 4 rebounds) Jessica Dirkse (2 points) Shelly Ditchfield (4 points, 2 assists)Jordyn Platt (3 points, 2 assists, 2 steals) and Anna Wondergem (3 rebounds, 2 blocks) all helped lead a balanced attack. It was a fun and exciting night in which Timothy took 4 out of 5 games....Go TC!!

The Lady Trojans now host Illiana Christian on Thursday at 7:00pm. Make plans now to come out and support the girls in the early season conference match-up. On a side note, all gate proceeds will be donated to the Roseland Christian School community to help some families in their community who recently lost some loved ones.

Westmont defeats TC 44-31

Westmont got off to fast start this afternoon and raced out to a 15-2 lead after one quarter of play. After digging an early hole, the Lady Trojans tried to play catch up. With a better second quarter the lead was cut to 7 at halftime. With a quick steal by Jordyn Platt the lead was down to five, however that would end up being the closet TC would get. Cassidy Block had another big game with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 steals. Jordyn Platt contributed 7 points and 4 steals.

The Lady Trojans will look to bounce back next week with another full slate of games. Thanks again for all the support from the fans.

First Home Game

The Lady Trojans will be playing there first home game tomorrow, 12/4/10, at 2:00pm vs. Westmont High School. Make plans now to come out and cheer these girls on in their first home game of the year! Let's Go TC!!!

TC falls to Glenbard South

The Lady Trojans were unable to overcome the full court pressure and mental mistakes as Glenbard South pulled away for a comfortable win, 55-38. Once again the team showed tremendous effort and battled very diligently, but in the end the costly errors were too much to come back from. With a dynamic duo, the Raiders from Glenbard South out muscled their way inside and converted some easy buckets. It was another great learning experience for the Lady Trojans as they continue to form their identity in this early part of the season. Tessa Bosman led the way with 11 points and Cassidy Block chipped in 10 points, 5 reb, 3 assists and 3 steals. Other team members on the night included: Jordyn Platt (5 reb, 2 assists) Anna Wondergem (4 points) Shelly Ditchfield (4 points, 3 reb).

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the ladies tonight. It was great to see a good crowd. Keep coming out and supporting the team.

TC Wins Conference Opener

The Lady Trojans traveled to Bensenville last night to play against conference foe Fenton High School. Both teams came out with great energy and intensity with the score being 7-5 in TC's favor after the first quarter. The Lady Trojans had a nice spurt in the second quarter, outscoring Fenton 16-7 to take a 24-12 halftime lead. The second half saw the pressure being turned up as the Lady Trojans were being swarmed by the Bison defense. After a little bit of chaos the team was able to pull out a 42-29 victory. TC was led in scoring and rebounds by Cassidy Block with 10 points, 17 rebounds. Other contributors on the night included Tessa Bosman (9 points, 8 rebounds) Jordyn Platt (6 points, 4 steals) Kari LeGrand (4 points, 6 rebounds) Anna Wondergem (5 points, 2 rebounds) Stephanie Kuiper (4 points, 3 rebounds)and Shelly Ditchfield (4 points, 4 rebounds). A good opening to conference play to say the least.

One, Anna will be leaving for California on Tuesday after school and I will be closing on my new house that afternoon as well. We will also be taking head shots of each player for media purposes.

Have a Great Sunday and we will see you tomorrow.

Lady Trojans take 2nd

It seems to be a little bit of a broken record because for the third straight year Timothy takes home the 2nd place trophy. Unable to muster enough offense coupled with some bad defense, the Rocks from Rock Island cruised to an easy victory 56-29. It's unfortunate to come up short again, but the team looks forward to learning a lot about themselves in this early part of the season. We strive to get better and this humbling defeat will make us better and tougher as the season progresses. Cassidy Block led the way with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Renata Harris contributed 5 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. The Lady Trojans will go back to work with quite a few days off before their next game. Timothy will be back in action on the 30th of November vs. Fenton High School.

Thanks again to everyone who made the trip out this afternoon to support the Lady Trojans. We even had a fan fly all the way from California to support the team and see her daughter of course (thanks Mrs. Wondergem). Have a Great Weekend!

Lady Trojans Post Victory

The team traveled out to IMSA once again this evening to continue it's play in the Hoop Happenings Tournament hosted by Illinois Math and Science Academy. The Lady Trojans played the home school tonight and were able to pressure the Titans to a comfortable 54-23 win. It was another total team effort and many girls saw playing time and contributed throughout. Cassidy Block led the night with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 steals. Kari LeGrand displayed a great shooting touch by knocking down 4 out of 6 attempts and tallying a total of 11 points, 5 assists and 6 steals. Tessa Bosman also had a solid all around game with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Other highlights on the night included Ciara Hoddenbach scoring 4 points, Amber Scheidt with 4 points and Anna Wondergem also dropping in 4 points. Opening Night.....Win

The Lady Trojans kicked off their season tonight with a commanding 60-15 win over Earlville. A combination of a full court press and good ball pressure in the half court led to many easy baskets for the Lady Trojans this evening. You sometimes wonder what to expect on an opening night and give credit to the girls for playing hard and making the game fun and easy. A lot of individuals helped the team this evening and leading the way was Tessa Bosman and Cassidy Block with 10 points apiece. Tessa also took a team high 8 rebounds in her first Varsity game. Other contributors were Jordyn Platt, Shelly Ditchfield and Stephanie Kuiper with 8 points apiece. As you can see, a great balance attack from a lot of different girls. Kari LeGrand chipped in 6 points and 4 assists while younger sister Kelli dropped in 4 points in her first Varsity action. Rounding out the night: Jessica Dirkse 3 rebounds 2 assists, Renata Harris 4 points, Anna Wondergem 2 steals, Jenna Lodewyk 2 points and Amber Scheidt with 2 rebounds.

The Lady Trojans now play on Friday at 5:30pm vs. host school Illinois Math and Science Academy. Thanks to the fans that came out tonight and supported the team. Hope to see you out there again on Friday!!

Summer Recap 2010

Hi Everyone,

It was hard to officially say bye to all of you at once because of everything you have going on in your lives, but I wanted to take some time and reflect on this summer of basketball. First, I would like to thank everyone for coming to whatever you could make and committing to getting better. Second, thanks for making the sacrifices financially and time wise to be a part of what we do in the summer. Finally, thanks for being such a great group to work with.

Here is a summary of where I feel we stand as of now:

We have a team full of people who want to get better and to learn more about basketball. This was evident by the turnout of girls we had and the willingness of everyone to listen to what the coaches were teaching. We saw some good improvement in attacking the basket and our passing showed some very good signs as well. Also, overall we saw a good display of ball pressure from many of you.

Moving forward, there are things we need to work on as well. We need to become a better rebounding team, help defense in stopping the ball, shooting (confidence to shoot) and increasing our ball handling skills. Finally, we need to understand to apply a work ethic to play hard and be strong when we are on the court.

Here are some thoughts from Coach Baumbach:

I am thankful for everyone who participated in camps, summer league, shootouts, or Hope Camp.
I am hopefull that all players have this thought: what do I need to work on to become a better basketball player. With this thought in mind I think of what the Concordia coach told you. When you work out, break a sweat! Try and practice at game speed! The Hope coach said that Everyone needs to get better at ball handling ! Those are good starting points to improvement. My last thought, come into the basketball season in shape.
I am really looking forward to the upcoming season.

As I right this email, we roughly have 3.5 months before our season starts at the beginning of November. I really look forward to tryouts and working with the team to become better in all facets of the game. I am quite positive that this year's upcoming team can do very well and your desire to win will control that destiny. I hope you can find time to relax and enjoy the rest of your summer and more importantly, to find time to be with God.

Blessings to you all,

Coach DeKoekkoek

Hope Camp 2010

The mini-bus will be leaving at 1:00 on Sunday, so please plan on being at Timothy's front doors around 12:45 to pack up. I am looking forward to a great three days of basketball and hanging out.

Summer League Final Night

Tomorrow night TC #1 will play at 5:00 and TC #2 will play at 6:00. It is a single elimination tournament so once you lose you are done. If both teams win their first game, it would set-up a Timothy show down in the next round. That would be interesting:-)

JV plays at 5:00 in the Middle School.

Camp Make-Up Days

Since last week we lost two days because the power was out, we are going to have camp on Monday and Tuesday of this week from 2:00-4:00pm. I understand if you have commitments that you cannot get out of, but I would like to have you there if you can come.

Thanks for being understanding and flexible with this whole situation.

Coach DK

Thursday, June 24, 2010

Power is still out

The power is still out at Timothy, thus camp will not be held tomorrow (6/25). We will look to get in a couple of days next week if possible for those that can come. More than likely, it will be in the afternoon. If anything, it may be a good opportunity to get your shooting workout in.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Power is out Again!

Due to the recent storm, the entire Timothy campus is without power. Thus, basketball camp on Thursday, the 24th is cancelled. Stay tuned for more information.

The Power is back on!

The power has been restored in the High School, so camp will be at 9:00-11:00am tomorrow morning in the HS. Also, summer league will run as normal, with Varsity in the HS and the JV in the Middle School.

Sorry for the mess.

I will open the gym at 8:00 if anyone wants to come in and shoot before camp starts. It might be a good time to get your summer shooting stuff in.

All Conference Honors

Congratulations to Cassidy Block and Kari LeGrand for being selected to the All Conference Team for the Metro Suburban Conference. We are very proud of your accomplishments and excited to see that your hard work has been rewarded!

Exit Interviews

This week, Coach Mark and I would like to meet with each player and wrap up the season with one on one conferences. We would prefer to do the conferences right after school, but we can adjust according to your schedules. Each conference should not take more than 10 minutes. Please stop by Coach DK's office and sign-up for a time this week.

Season Comes To An End

This past Tuesday night, the Lady Trojans season came to an end. However, the season did not end without a fight. Playing #1 ranked Immaculate Conception on their home court seemed to be a daunting task, but the Lady Trojans were ready to play. Both teams took a little time feeling each other out, but the pace of the game was in favor of Timothy. After a close 1st quarter, the Lady Trojans jumped ahead in the second, only to have IC tie it up at halftime 22-22. IC took an early six point lead in the third quarter, but Timothy would not go way, responding with their own run to cut the lead to one after three quarters. Heading into the fourth quarter the Lady Trojans were feeling pretty good and feeling was reflected with a one point lead with about 6:30 minutes to play. Only if the story could end there! IC rattled off a string of points that Timothy could not respond too. As the game winded down, Timothy's four Seniors took the floor and played out their final season within Timothy's program.

It was a hard fought game that the girls can feel really proud about! Yes, a grand finish would have been nice, but the team can be satisfied with their performance tonight regardless!! Thank you again to our Seniors, Lauren, Liz, Amanda and Maggie. Continued blessings to you all!

Thanks to all the fans who came out on a very snowy night to cheer the Lady Trojans on. It was greatly appreciated!

Timothy defeats Willows

The Lady Trojans opened up Regional play this evening vs. Willows Academy. The Lady Trojans rushed out to an early 16-2 lead after one quarter. That impressive quarter set the tone for the rest of the game as Timothy ended up winning comfortably 52-30. Several players contributed on the night with Cassidy Block leading the way with 13 points. Kari LeGrand and Maggie VanderWoude chipped in 12 and 6 respectively. Timothy now focuses it's attention on Immaculate Conception. The Lady Trojans will challenge the #1 seed in the Regional at 6:00pm tomorrow night. Make plans now to come on out and support the Girls as they battle cross town foe IC.

Also, Kari LeGrand and Jordyn Platt advanced in the 3pt competition. Kari hit 10 3's while Jordyn dropped in 6. The girls will shoot tomorrow at 5:15 for the chance to advance to the regional final.

Timothy Gets the Win!

The Lady Trojans pulled out an overtime victory this evening over Elmwood Park. With the evening focusing in on our Seniors, the Lady Trojans came up big in the overtime. Game started off a little slow for both teams, but finally Timothy broke through in the 2nd Quarter to pull ahead by 8 at the half. With the 3rd quarter kind of resembling the 1st the game took on a back and forth feel. The Lady Trojans were able to pull ahead by 12 before Elmwood Park made a valiant comeback to tie it with 12 seconds left. After a last second shot just missed, the game went to overtime. Timothy can out red hot by scoring the first 9 points of the extra period. After another comeback by Elmwood Park, the Lady Trojans were able to hold on for the victory 44-40. Cassidy Block and Kari LeGrand both had 12 points, while Jordyn Platt had 11. Seniors Amanda Dykema and Maggie VanderWoude contributed some key baskets and free throws in the overtime.

Speaking of Seniors, the coaching staff wants to thank our Seniors once again for their wonderful leadership and influence to us all in the program. Thank you Liz, Lauren, Maggie and Amanda. You have been a blessing to us all!

Thanks Seniors!!

Timothy Defeats Chicago Christian 37-32

The Lady Trojans won a hard fought game last night against former league rival Chicago Christian. With much of the game being very tight, it was a big basket by sophomore Jasmine Stein and some clutch free throw shooting by Jordyn Platt that preserved the win. A lot of credit goes to the girls for playing hard and winning the rebound portion of the game. Amanda Dykema had 13 of those rebounds plus 8 points. Cassidy Block also had a strong game with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Maggie VanderWoude had 4 rebounds and some nice blocks, while Kari LeGrand had 7 rebounds. A good win for the team this evening!

Slow Start Hurts Lady Trojans

The Lady Trojans were unable to get going right away and Riverside-Brookfield capitalized on it. After the dust had settled, R-B had a commanding 17-4 lead after the 1st Quarter. That pretty much set the tone for the remainder of the game as the Lady Trojans were unable to muster an attack to get back in the game. Cassidy Block led the Lady Trojans with 8 points and Liz Powers chipped in 7. Final score was 58-36.

Summary Of The Last Two Games

On Monday night, the Lady Trojans suffered a loss to Illiana Christian. It was a very physical game in which both teams played extremely hard. The Lady Trojans came up a little short in the end. Final score was 45-37.

Tonight, the Lady Trojans were unable to catch up to Latin, losing 65-56. Timothy was unable to get enough defensive stops to keep themselves in the game. Both Kari LeGrand and Cassidy Block turned in some good offensive outpoint tonight scoring 18 and 16 respectively.

The Lady Trojans continue their long week with a game vs. Riverside-Brookfield on Friday.

Comeback Falls Short

The Lady Trojans played familiar foe Walther Lutheran this evening and the game was another interesting battle between the two schools. Walther jumped out to a 21 to 9 halftime lead behind some timely 3pt shots and pressure defense. The Lady Trojans were unable to find the bottom of the basket for much of the 1st half and contributed several turnovers. After refocusing at halftime, Timothy put together a rally that was fun to watch. Trailing at one point by 18 points, the Lady Trojans came all the way back to within 4. However, the finishing product was not to be as Walther hit some timely free throws and the Lady Trojans came up empty on the offensive end. Cassidy Block led Timothy with 13 points and 7 reb. Kari LeGrand had 11 points and 5 reb while Jordyn Platt had 10 pts and 6 steals. The final score was 49-42.

Timothy Gets the Win!

The Lady Trojans returned to action this afternoon, playing against a conference opponent from Ridgewood. The Lady Trojans were busy studying all week for 1st semester exam, so it was good to get out and play after a long draining week. Timothy responded right out of the gate with a 15-4 advantage after the 1st quarter. Ridgewood battled back a little in the 2nd quarter, but Timothy was able to take a 23-14 lead into the half. Much like the 1st quarter, Timothy came roaring out of the break with a 16-3 advantage in the quarter. Leading by a comfortable margin, the Lady Trojans got a little stale and Ridgewood trimmed the lead to 12 before the final score of 46-34. Cassidy Block turned in a fine overall performance with 14 points, 9 reb, 4 assists and 3 steals. Kari LeGrand had 11 points (3/3 from 3pt land)and had 2 assists. Amanda Dykema contributed 4 points, 9 reb, 2 assists and 2 steals while Maggie VanderWoude had 3 steals and 4 points. Overall the Lady Trojans dished out 14 assists and moved the ball very well. Thanks to all the fans for all the support on a Saturday afternoon.

Lady Trojans split two

Over the weekend the Lady Trojans played two games. On Friday night, Timothy battled against conference foe Fenton and fell a little short, 33-29. The game experienced a very tight game throughout, but the Lady Trojans were unable to execute down the stretch. The girls played hard and fought to the end, but just came up a little short.

Timothy did not have much of a break or rest for that matter, with Holland (MI) Christian coming to town. The game was a challenge unto itself because the girls had to come back from a tough loss the night before. That they did. The Lady Trojans played some great defense in the firs half, holding Holland Christian to 4 first half points. The second half saw the pace pick up and the game became more intense. Holland Christian made a strong run to close the gap to four, but Timothy responded in making some big free throws and won the game 38-30.

Timothy has a little bit of a break this coming week with exams looming on Wednesday. The Lady Trojans will be back in action again on Saturday the 16th at home vs. Ridgewood.

*Girls, remember your character presentation for tomorrow*
*Also, I still need money from some of you for the warm-ups!!*

Service Project Pics

Here are a few pictures from our Service Project that we took part in before the Christmas Break. Enjoy!

Lisle defeats Timothy 44-20

Well, the New Year is here and the Lady Trojans were not ready for it. The Lions from Lisle outplayed the Lady Trojans and were the benefactors of a comfortable win. On a cold night, the Lady Trojans just a frozen percentage from the field. Coupled with several turnovers, it became a long night and a game that will quickly be erased from the memory bank.
