Christmas Tournament Summary

The Lady Trojans just finished playing in a very competitive Lisle Christmas Tournament last night. With one of best fields from top to bottom in recent history, the tournament gave the Lady Trojans some very good games. Timothy ended the tournament with a 2-2 record and a renewed passion for playing some good defense. Timothy competed very hard in every single game and were just unfortunate to be on the losing side in a couple of them. The Lady Trojans leave the tournament on a positive note as they get ready for the New Year. Thanks to everyone who came out over the Holidays and supported the Lady Trojans. We appreciate your support and encouragement to us all!!

Results:
40-32 - Loss vs. St. Francis 1st round
43-35 - Win vs. Newark
38-32 - Loss vs. St. Edward
51-36 - Win vs. Illiana Christian

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Timothy On-Line!

Last night's game vs. Newark was on-line for everyone to see. Lisle High School has teamed up with a website called ihigh.com. So, thanks to this partnership our game was available to watch on-line free of charge. A pretty cool experience to be a part of nonetheless. If you would like to watch the game it can be found under the broadcasts tab. Once you do that, select archived broadcasts and search for the 5:00pm game at Lisle High School. It should mention Timothy Christian and Newark in the sub-heading. The Lady Trojans defeated Newark 43-35.

Lady Trojans get the Win

This evening, the Lady Trojans traveled to play the Tigers from Elmwood Park. This was the last game of the first round of conference play and last game before Christmas. Timothy was able to use a good 1st quarter push to take the game 40-22. After getting several easy baskets in the first quarter, the game took on a lull of sorts. With not much offense being scored on both sides it came down to defensive stops. The Lady Trojans held Elmwood Park to just 9 second half points. Good play was turned in by Amanda Dykema with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Cassidy Block chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds with the "birthday girl" Maggie VanderWoude dropped in 4 points and 6 rebounds. A good win for the team as they head into the Christmas break.

Come on out and support the Lady Trojans in their Christmas Tournament at Lisle High School. Their first game is scheduled for Dec. 26 at 6:30pm. Hope to see you out there!!

Service Project Today!

We will be helping CareNet Pregnancy Services in Downers Grove on Wednesday the 16th of December. Our “project” will be helping attach filers to baby bottles for a fund drive in January. In January, the bottles will be given to local churches to fill up and help supply CareNet with the necessary funds to help young women with unplanned pregnancies. We are fortunate to be able to give of our time and help to a cause that is very important in helping young mothers in the western suburbs of Chicago.

CareNet Pregnancy Services of DuPage is a 501(c)3 Christian organization whose vision is to eliminate the suffering from and desire for abortion in DuPage County. For over 27 years, CareNet has done this by working to prevent unplanned pregnancies through its abstinence education program (now called Amplify Youth Development) and by providing emotional support, spiritual counseling and practical help to men and women dealing with an unplanned pregnancy.

*We will also be donating a check to CareNet based upon our proceeds from Summer League. Coach DeKoekkoek would like to thank the many parents and players for giving of their resources and time to make this donation possible. Thank you to all!

A Tale of Two Halves

The Lady Trojans were unable to slow down Westmont this evening, losing 52-35. The first half saw a lot of positives for the Lady Trojans, with good ball movement, hitting the open shot and playing some pretty good defense. However, there are two halves in a game and the second half was not so good. Westmont dominated the paint with their big girls and were able to hit some timely 3 pointers to open up the lead. Another learning point for the Lady Trojans as they continue to form their identity. Once again, Cassidy Block led the team in scoring with 10 points, Kari LeGrand chipped in 7 and Jordyn Platt had 6. Timothy plays again this coming Thursday at Elmwood Park.

Timothy Loses to Riverside-Brookfield: 62-52

The Lady Trojans were unable to get the victory this evening against a strong team from Riverside-Brookfield. The Bulldogs from R-B pressured the Lady Trojans into several turnovers which attributed a lot of easy points for R-B. Combining the turnovers with some good offensive rebounds from R-B, the Lady Trojans were battling a deficit the whole game. Timothy was led in scoring by Cassidy Block with 14 points, Jordyn Platt 11 points and Amanda Dykema with 8.

Timothy plays again next week at Westmont High School on Tuesday the 15th of December. Another quality opponent for the Lady Trojans lies ahead.

Timothy Wins Nail-Biter!

The Lady Trojans won a nail biter this evening, beating Fenton 32-31 to improve to 2-1 in conference and 4-3 overall. The game had a lot of ups and downs, but in the end the Lady Trojans perservered and pulled out the tough victory. Timothy trailed after one quarter, 9-4 and then proceeded to cut the lead to one at the half, 14-13. The Lady Trojans came out a little flat in the 3rd quarter and it showed with Fenton winning the quarter 13-5. Trailing by 9 entering the 4th quarter, the Lady Trojans needed a comeback and that is exactly what happened. Timothy tightened up their defense and made some huge baskets on the offensive end. The Lady Trojans outscored Fenton 14-4 in the 4th and no two points were bigger than Cassidy Block’s game winning lay-up with 2 seconds left. A lot of credit goes to the girls for working hard and staying tough when things were not going there way. Amanda Dykema led Timothy with 10 points, 8 rebounds, Jordyn Platt had 7 points, 3 steals and Cassidy Block had 6 points and 7 rebounds. A good win for the Lady Trojans. Thanks to everyone who came and made it through the snow and sleet. Your support was much appreciated!!

Timothy Loses to Illiana 56-42

The Lady Trojans lost their first conference game this evening. Illiana jumped out to an early lead after one quarter and pretty much kept a safe lead from there. The Lady Trojans threatened in the 3rd Quarter, cutting the lead to 7, but were unable to sustain the rally. Cassidy Block once again led Timothy with 14 points, 2 rebounds, Jordyn Platt and Liz Powers each chipped in 8 points, while Lauren Couture dropped in 4 points, 2 rebounds and a steal. Kari LeGrand and Amanda Dykema led the team with 8 rebounds apiece. Renata Harris also contributed with 5 rebounds and 2 points. A tough loss to take, but Timothy now gears up for another week in which they host two conference games.

Lady Trojans lose Non-Conference Game

The Chargers from St. Joe were too much to handle on this night. With the game being played at a very fast tempo, the Lady Trojans were not able to keep up. Give credit to St. Joe’s for some great shooting, strong inside presence and overall pressure defense. Timothy was able to get some positives out of the game as the team continues to form it’s identity. The final result was 82-48. Timothy was led in scoring by Jordyn Platt 13 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals Maggie VanderWoude 10 points (4/4 from the field) and Kari LeGrand with 8 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Renata Harris chipped in 2 points, 3 rebounds. A valuable and needed experience for the Lady Trojans tonight!

Lady Trojans Win Conference Opener - 48-36

The Lady Trojans opened conference play this evening with a win over Ridgewood High School. Timothy raced out to early lead, but the Rebels from Ridgewood hung around to keep the game close. The Lady Trojans closed the half with a good spurt, pushing the lead to 24-11. Ridgewood battled back in the 3rd Quarter, cutting the lead to 5 points at one time. Thankfully, the Lady Trojans stepped up when needed and closed the game with some timely shots. Cassidy Block led the team with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Other contributors on the night were: Jordyn Platt with 7 points and 5 steals, Jasmine Stein with 6 points, 2 steals, Maggie VanderWoude 4 points, 4 rebounds Kari LeGrand 7 rebounds, 3 assists and Amanda Dykema with 6 points, 4 rebounds.

Too Much to Handle

The Bulldogs from Batavia came out early in the game and set the tone for what was a long afternoon for the Lady Trojans from Timothy Christian. Batavia's pressure and rebounding were too much for the Lady Trojans to handle. Give credit to Batavia for making a high percentage of their shots and good ball movement. The final result was 59-36. Timothy gained valuable experience about what it takes to play against teams that are more physical and aggressive. Kari LeGrand had 7 points and 4 assists, while Cassidy Block and Jordyn Platt also contributed 7 points. Timothy Christian is off for awhile before there next game on the 1st of December.

Timothy Pulls it Out! 54-46

The Lady Trojans from Timothy were involved in a very up and down game this evening. No team could get into a rhythm due to the fact that 63 free throws were shot combined by both teams. Needless to say it was not a very pretty win for the Lady Trojans, but a win nonetheless. Give credit to Timothy for battling and remaining tough despite a lot of whistles being blown. On the night, sophomore Cassidy Block contributed 10 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, while Amanda Dykema had another strong outing with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Kari LeGrand chipped in with 14 rebounds and senior Liz Powers dropped 8 points on the evening. Timothy plays for the Championship tomorrow afternoon at 1:30pm vs Batavia.

Come on out and support the Lady Trojans as they go for the Championship. Game is being played at Illinois Math and Science Academy.

1st Game Recap

The Lady Trojans came out strong this evening building an 8pt lead after 1 quarter of play. Timothy kept pouring it on in the 2nd quarter which lead to a 35-18 lead at the half. In the second half the Lady Trojans built the lead to 22 points at one time and finished with a strong opening night win. The final score was 58-40. Amanda Dykema led all scorers with 15 points and Jordyn Platt contributed 14. Overall, a good first game for the Timothy Trojans.

Free Throws for Hero's Total Earnings!

Dear Coach Dekoekkoek,

In honor of Memorial Day, I thought this would be the ideal occasion to share some truly inspiring news with you:

On behalf of the IBCA, IHSA, IADA and Suburban Basketball Officials, I would like to again express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to you, your fellow coaches, fellow teams, players, parents, fans and communities for helping us raise a phenomenal $82,170 for our Illinois military troops and their families through our Free Throws For Heroes® event...a total even more incredible considering only 96 Illinois high schools were able to participate this past year due to limited lead times.

Considering this was our first year and recognizing that lead time was very short, it is a great reflection on you, Timothy Christian High School and the entire Illinois basketball community for achieving such phenomenal results. We should all take great pride and satisfaction in knowing that we all stepped up to the line to “Make Free Throws That WILL Make A Difference To Our Illinois Military Families In Need.”

We will now work with the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs to distribute the funds to pre-qualified and pre-approved Illinois Military Troops and/or their families in and around the communities where these great events took place.

Again, on behalf of these brave families, thank you for your exemplary work and please share our gratitude with your fellow coaches, players and entire Timothy Christian high school community.

We look forward to partnering with you next season to be even bigger “Heroes To Our Brave Illinois Military Heroes.”

Sincerely,

Mitch Salzstein

A note from the Coach

I want to express my deepest thanks to everyone who supported, encouraged and prayed for us this year. I am humbled by your encouraging words, the willingness to pray for me and the girls and the overall support of the program. Thank you parents for giving me the opportunity to coach your daughters. They are wonderful young woman to be around and they continue to teach me a lot of things:-) Thank you to the players for working hard and pushing yourselves to achieve more! Without your work ethic a lot of things would not have happened this year. Thank you Coach Mark for being such a blessing to me as a friend, fellow coach and supporter of the program. I am extremely blessed to be the coach of this program!

-Coach DeKoekkoek

Timothy's season comes to an end

The Lady Trojans lost to a very balanced Driscoll team last night by the score of 47-23. After a wonderful start which was highlighted by an Anneke Stremler three pointer, the Lady Trojans kind of simmered the rest of the way. The ladies played with great energy and effort, especially on the defensive end, but Driscoll was just a little too much for the Lady Trojans to handle. Meghan Leach led Timothy with 10 points, followed by Anneke Stremler with 7. The season officially comes to a close for the Lady Trojans after a great run in the state playoffs. The team finished with a 17-11 record overall,a Regional Championship and a lot of respect from opponents on how hard they played. We bid farewell to our wonderful Seniors: Meghan, Anneke, Katie, Shannon and Kelsey and we pray for God's blessings on their future ahead. Thank you ladies for being such great leaders, God-fearing young woman and an example to us all.

"most valuable baller" goes to Anneke and Meghan...co-ballers!!

Timothy advances to the Sectional Final!

The Lady Trojans defeated Holy Trinity tonight by the score of 48-35 and advance to play Driscoll in the Sectional Final. The Lady Trojans came out a little tight, but quickly turned on the jets to race out to a 17-4 led after one quarter. Timothy was able to extend their lead a little to 26-12 at the half. After a pretty good first half, the Lady Trojans struggled to find a rhythm in the second half, but were able to come up with the needed baskets when pushed. Meghan Leach led Timothy with 12 points, followed by Anneke Stremler (10pts, 6 rebounds, 2 steals) Kelsey Kaczynski (9pts, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) Katie Dirkse (7pts, 2 steals, 2 assists) and Shannon McNeil (5pts, 7 assists, 13 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 steals). Lauren Couture grabbed 4 rebounds and 2 assists, while Amanda Dykema helped on the glass as well with 6 rebounds. Kari LeGrand helped distribute the ball by handing out 4 assists. A lot of good contributions tonight for the Lady Trojans.

Timothy claims the Regional Title!!!!

The Lady Trojans defeated Walther Lutheran this evening by a nerve racking score of 29-28. Trailing for almost the entire game, the Lady Trojans were able to pull ahead with an Anneke Stremler fade a way. After a quick answer by Walther, the Lady Trojans found themselves down by 1 with about 17 seconds to go. The Lady Trojans ran a great out of bounds play to free up Anneke Stremler who was fouled on the way up. Anneke calmly sank two free throws to give Timothy the lead for good. After an anxious final couple of seconds, Timothy was able to celebrate their come from behind win. Kelsey Kaczynski led the Lady Trojans with 7 points, followed by Anneke Stremler with 6. A very rewarding night for the girls, the fans, the school and the parents. Thank you so much for your support!!! The Lady Trojans will now play on Monday evening vs. Holy Trinity at Lisle High School. Stay tuned for the time of the game.

Lady Trojans Win Round One!

The Lady Trojans pull out a tough one vs. in city rival Immaculate Conception. After a very entertaining 1st quarter, the game took on a very serious defensive tone. Fortunately, the Lady Trojans took a 31-17 advantage into the locker room and that proved to be the difference in the game. Timothy held IC to just 10 points, 2 in the 4th, in the second half for a comfortable 43-27 win. A lot of credit goes to the girls for working hard and plugging up the lanes. Shannon McNeil led Timothy with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Quite the game for Shannon tonight. Meghan Leach dropped in 9 points followed by Anneke Stremler’s 6 points and 4 rebounds. The Lady Trojans battle against conference foe Walther tomorrow night for the Regional Championship. Game time is set for 7:30pm. Thanks to everyone for the support and we ask that you come out tomorrow and cheer the girls on again!!!!!

Lady Trojans lose a close one to Walther

The Lady Trojans could not quite come up with enough stops defensively to win the game. Walther ended up controlling the offensive glass which became too much for the Lady Trojans to overcome. Shannon McNeil put in 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Meghan Leach bounced back from a recent injury to contribute 13 points. A tough loss for the Lady Trojans. Final score was 50-47. The team now focuses it's energy on their semi-final regional game vs. Immaculate Conception on Wednesday night. It should be a good game to come and watch.

Timothy falls to Illiana

Sorry for the late post, but here is a brief summary of the game. Timothy was unable to overcome the physical play of Illiana and lost 39-28. The Lady Trojans played with great energy, but just could not overcome some cold shooting and the inability to get the cruical rebound. Shannon McNeil had 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way.

On the flip side Anneke Stremler led Timothy with 15 points and 7 rebounds while Shannon McNeil contributed 11 points. The Lady Trojans will continue their week with Illiana on Thursday and Walther on Friday.

Timothy comes up short 51-49

The Lady Trojans came up a little short tonight, but not without a final fight to the last 0.1 of the game. The Lady Trojans were unable to come up with defensive stop when they needed it and that proved to be the difference in the game. A tough loss to swallow for Timothy due to the fact that Timothy led most of the night. Give credit to St. Joe’s for hitting some big 3 pointers to change the game in their favor. The Lady Trojans were led in scoring by Meghan Leach with 18 points and 4 rebounds. The Lady Trojans now travel to Wheaton Academy on Friday for a big conference game in which neither team has lost in conference play.

"most valuable baller" goes to Meghan Leach...great game Meghan!

On a side note we want to thank our five seniors: Katie, Kelsey, Shannon, Meghan and Anneke for being great leaders and for their dedication and commitment to the Timothy Christian Basketball Program. Thank you ladies for being strong women who are centered in Christ. We will miss you!

The Lady Trojans from Timothy Christian put together a solid effort tonight by beating conference foe Aurora Christian. The Lady Trojans had a very balanced attack with four players scoring in double figures. Meghan Leach had 19 points, Shannon McNeil (14 rebounds, 3 assists) and Kari LeGrand each had 11 and Katie Dirkse dropped in 10. Rounding out the scoring tonight was Anneke Stremler (5 rebounds, 3 steals) with 8 and Maggie VanderWoude (5 rebounds, 2 steals) with 2. Timothy Christian continues to improve and looks to get better as tough games lie ahead. The Lady Trojans are off until next week Tuesday, when they play home against a tough St. Joseph’s team.

OH WHAT A NIGHT!!

The Lady Trojans pulled off a huge upset tonight, beating undefeated Riverside-Brookfield 43-41. The game was filled with some great play, not so great play and big time baskets in the 4th quarter. Timothy trailed the Bulldogs of Riverside-Brookfield at the half 24 to 17, but were able to close the gap a little in the 3rd quarter to put the score at 31-28 in favor of R-B. The Lady Trojans kept battling in the 4th quarter, but R-B just kept getting a basket or free throw here and there to keep the lead at 6. With just over 2 minutes to play, the Lady Trojans were down 41-35. What happened next was just a great example of some girls playing hard and looking to make something happen. The Lady Trojans finished on an 8-0 run to win the game by two. The final basket came off a great pass from Shannon McNeil to Anneke Stremler, who laid the ball in with 1 second to play….game over! Shannon McNeil led Timothy in scoring with 11 points and also grabbed 7 rebounds. Anneke Stremler contributed 9 points and grabbed a game high 13 rebounds! A great win for the Lady Trojans to say the least!

"most valuable baller" goes to Anneke Stremler...way to go Anneke!!

Timothy 60 Luther South 24

After a long week of studying and cramming last minute thoughts into their brains, the Lady Trojans defeated Luther South with a convincing win. Give credit to Luther South for playing hard and controlling the boards in the first half. The Lady Trojans found some energy in the second half and put the game away. Kari LeGrand led all scores with a career high of 20 points and she also dished out 9 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds. Katie Dirkse provided a nice supporting role to Kari by contributing 9 points and some good defensive pressure. Kelsey Kaczynski put in 7 points and Liz Powers also had some good play with 4 assists and 3 steals. The Lady Trojans play again this coming Tuesday vs. undefeated Riverside-Brookfield.

"most valuable baller" goes without saying....Kari LeGrand!! Great game Kari!

Change in Practice Time

This Friday's practice time has changed from 1:45-3:30 to 4:45-6:30pm. There was some confusion regarding when exams would be finished and since they don't get done until 2:30, our practice time had to be moved. Thanks for the understanding!

Lady Trojans Bounce Back!

The Lady Trojans bounced back tonight after a disappointing loss over the weekend. Timothy defeated Ridgewood High School by the score of 64-31. Timothy came out fired up and led 24-3 after one quarter. That pretty much set the tone for the evening with Timothy comfortably riding a 20+ advantage the rest of the way. Even amongst several fouls being called in the game, the Lady Trojans were able to rise above it and play pretty good basketball. Once again, Meghan Leach led the way with 18 points (4 3's), followed by Anneke Stremler with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Shannon McNeil contributed 9 points, 5 assists and 7 rebounds followed by Katie Dirkse with 9 points and 4 steals. Everyone was able to get some good playing time and that led to a positive night!

"most valuable baller" goes to Meghan Leach.

*reminder: no practice tomorrow morning!*

Tonight's game has been changed again from 6:30pm to 7:00pm. I am sorry for the change in times, but game time is set for 7:00pm. Please make this adjustment to your schedules!

Today's Game at Ridgewood

The freshman and sophomores play at the same time, thus allowing us to play at 6:30pm. I have included the address and map to Ridgewood High School. Sorry for the confusion.

Holland Christian too much for the Lady Trojans

The Lady Trojans traveled to Holland, MI yesterday to play against Holland Christian. After traveling for some 4+ hours on the bus due to the snow and bad road conditions the Lady Trojans were not ready for what was in store. After a competitive 1st quarter, the rest of the game just got away. The Maroons from Holland Christian were just too much to handle eventually beating the Lady Trojans 55-31. Shannon McNeil led all scores with 15 points, but that was pretty much it. A disappointing night for the Lady Trojans who now must regroup and travel to Ridgewood tomorrow night for a game at 6:30pm.

"most valuable baller" goes to Shannon McNeil. Congrats Shannon!

Player of the Week Honors!

Congratulations to senior Meghan Leach for receiving "Player of the Week" honors from the Walter Payton Roundhouse Committee. Meghan received the honor on behalf of her great individual play over the Christmas break. Meghan now joins fellow senior Anneke Stremler for this distinguished honor.

Be sure to copy and paste the link in the address bar. Once the page comes up, scroll down and you will find Meghan's name under the December 31 heading.

Holland Trip Information

Our morning shoot-a-round has been changed to 9:15-10:00am. The reason for the change in times is to allow for more time in our travel to Holland, MI.

The bus will be leaving at 11:00am and we will be stopping on our way for a bite to eat. Once we arrive in Holland we will get settled for our game at 6:00pm. There may be some time for us to get a light snack before the game, but make sure you bring some food for the bus ride...just in case!

There will be a bus(s) going home after the guy's game if you decide not to stay overnight. The bus will hopefully be back around midnight Chicago time.

Timothy shuts down Westminster!!

The Lady Trojans rang in the New Year in grand fashion this evening by beating Westminster Christian 72-12. With a concentrated effort from the get go, coupled with some hot shooting the Lady Trojans put the peddle to the medal. With several girls contributing on the night, it was a good game for a lot of players to play some big minutes and be successful. Timothy was led in scoring by Meghan Leach, 16 points, followed by Anneke Stremler with 13, Liz Powers with 12 and Shannon McNeil with 9. Katie Dirkse put in 6 points, 6 steals, 3 assists and Kari LeGrand dished out 7 assists. Maggie VanderWoude led the way in rebounding with 5. Needless to say, the Lady Trojans took care of business tonight! The Lady Trojans now travel to Holland, MI on Saturday to play against a very good Holland Christian team. The Lady Trojans will be playing the game at Hope College's DeVos Fieldhouse. Game time is set for 6:00pm followed by the Boys Varsity at 7:30pm. If you can make the trip, we would love your support!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

We made it to another year, yeah!!! 2008 was a good year for a lot of reasons, especially the way we ended it. Let us begin 2009 with that same intensity and expect good things from ourselves and this team.

A couple of announcements:

*There will be two optional shoot-a-arounds on Friday and Saturday for any of you who would like to come in and get a workout in. Both workouts will be geared towards individual development. Individual moves, shooting, footwork, ball-handling,etc.

*The time of the shoot-a-rounds will be 12:00-1:30pm on both days! If you want to come in early like 8:30-10:00am(Friday only) I am flexible with that. So, in essence I am giving you two time slots to pick from to accommodate your busy schedules:-)

*Please let me know what time slot you are coming too. Call, text, email, drive-bye, do whatever, but let me know because there is no need for me to be at the gym at 8:30am if know one is going to show up:-)

**Reminder about our Christmas/New Year Party: we are meeting at Lombard Roller Rink at 7:30pm. After skating we will be heading back to my place for goodies, games and white elephant exchange. Make sure you bring a gift to exchange. Looking forward to a great time!
