Lady Trojans defeat Elmwood Park
After taking a trip to Holland, MI where there was plenty of fun, not the result however, the Lady Trojans defeated Elmwood Park last night by the score of 46-28. Timothy was looking to rebound from consecutive losses where playing good basketball was not very evident. With a renewed focus, last night's game was just what the doctor ordered...a complete game. With a stifling defense which created numerous turnovers, the Lady Trojans were able to convert those into easy points and hold a comfortable lead throughout the contest. With Tessa Bosman leading the way with 15 points and 6 steals, the rest of the line-up chipped in a variety of ways. Cassidy Block had 13 points, 6 rebounds, Jessica Dirkse 7 points, Jordyn Platt 3 steals, Kari LeGrand 6 assists, Anna Wondergem 4 points and Stephanie Kuiper with 7 rebounds. It was good win for the team as they look forward to their next game vs. Walther.
Thursday's game will be played at Walther with a 7:30pm start time.

Not To Be......
The Lady Trojans hosted Fenton last night in the second of two meetings between the teams. The inability to score and turnovers were the theme on this night. With Fenton harassing the Lady Trojans with their half court zone defenses, ball security was at a high premium. However, that ball security was not present and TC would succumb to the Bison from Fenton 37-28. It was a frustrating night in many ways and the team looks forward to learning and bouncing back from this game. Timothy now travels to Holland, MI to take on a very good Holland Christian team. Directions will be giving out later.

Overtime Win!
The Lady Trojans were involved in their first overtime game of the season on Saturday afternoon. The visiting Tigers from Elmwood Park played hard and made for quite an interesting game. The Lady Trojans took a six point lead into the half, only to see themselves go cold from the field in the 3rd quarter. With only scoring four points, Elmwood Park crept back into the game and that momentum carried over into the 4th. With the game going back and forth with both teams making a basket or free throw here and there, it provided some tense drama. TC was unable to get anything going on the offensive end with about 10 seconds to go, which resulted in EP getting the ball back with 4.8 seconds left. Some good defensive pressure by the Lady Trojans created a turnover with 2 seconds left. However, TC was not able to get a good look and the game headed into overtime. Timothy played some great defense and rebounded the ball well in the overtime period and that provided a spark for the offense. With Jordyn Platt hitting some free throws and a lay-up the team was able to exhale a little. The girls found a way to muster up enough energy in the overtime period to get the win 48-39. Good job ladies and way to pull it out. Timothy was led in scoring by Renata Harris and Tessa Bosman with 10 points apiece. Renata did a great job in stepping up for the team and her efforts paid off. Bosman also grabbed a team high in rebounds with 8. Other stats on the day included: Jordyn Platt (9 points, 3 rebounds) Kari LeGrand (7 points, 4 assists) Jessica Dirkse (6 points, 2 rebounds) Shelly Ditchfield (2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists) and Anna Wondergem and Stephanie Kuiper chipping in 2 points apiece.
The Lady Trojans will be back in action this coming Thursday (1/20) vs. Fenton High School. It is yet another home game, so come out and keep cheering for these hard working girls. They have displayed a great attitude and a willingness to get better. Hope to see you out there!

Whirlyball!
With exams taking center stage this week, the coaching staff decided to take the team to something that was a little less stressful.....Whirlyball! With this being the first time for many of the girls, it was great to see the excitment and fun that was displayed. With numerous crashes into the railings and into each other, the team had a wonderful time playing and laughing all the same. One highlight which almost turned into a lowlight was Cassidy's car catching fire! We all know when a player gets hot, they are on fire, but we didn't know it would happen so literally! Thankfully, no harm was done and the car was replaced. Here are some pics from the afternoon:

Timothy takes down Luther North
Sorry for the delay in the post game recap of our game on Monday, but I think exams have everyone a little out of whack. We hosted Luther North this past Monday and once again the girls came out focused and charged up. In not knowing too much about our opponent the girls were ready to get the game started. TC was able to race out to a 15-7 led after the first quarter. The Lady Trojans would continue to build on their lead going into the half with a 27-15 advantage. The Wildcats from Luther North would not go away by creeping back into the game and cutting the lead to single digits. Timothy would respond and eventually take home the contest with a 56-38 victory. TC was led in scoring and in rebounding by Stephanie Kuiper with 11 and 10 respectively. Anna Wondergem also cashed in (9 points, 5 rebounds) and Tessa Bosman had (8 points, 7 rebounds) Jordyn Platt (8 points, 5 assists) Shelly Ditchfield (4 points, 4 assists, 3 steals) Renata Harris (2 points, 4 rebounds). This week has been a long week for the Lady Trojans with academics at the forefront of their minds. We continue to pray for the girls as they strive to do their best in the classroom.
The Lady Trojans play again on Saturday at home vs. Elmwood Park. The game time is set for 2:00pm. Keep coming out and supporting these wonderful girls!

TC gets the Win
The Lady Trojans continue to play good basketball and Saturday afternoon was another good demonstration of that. In playing Ridgewood for the second time, TC came out focused from the start. After one quarter of play, the score was 21-8 in favor of the Lady Trojans. Timothy would continue to build on it's lead and take a comfortable 35-19 lead into the half. The second half struggled to get a flow, mainly due to all the fouls that were called, but TC would almost build it's lead to 30. After all the free throws were taken, the final score ended up being 61-38. The game proved to be a showcase in how well balanced the team is. Everybody would contribute on the day with Cassidy Block and Tessa Bosman leading the way with 13 and 12 points respectively. Both girls grabbed a team leading 10 rebounds as well. Jordyn Platt (7 points) Kari LeGrand (4 points) Anna Wondergem (4 points) Shelly Ditchfield (6 points) Renata Harris (5 points) Jessica Dirkse (6 points) Amber Scheidt (2 points) and Stephanie Kuiper (2 points) all chipped in on the action. Great job ladies. The Lady Trojans now move to 5-1 in conference and 11-5 overall.

Timothy Hangs On!
The Lady Trojans traveled to Lisle High School last night to play against a good Lisle team. With it being the first game after the break, sometimes you are not quite sure what you are going to get from the team. However, TC came out with great energy and excitement and that proved to a constant throughout the game. After the first quarter, TC held a slight 10-7 lead. Timothy would build on that lead by taking a nine point advantage into the half 22-13. With good ball movement and everyone contributing the team looked to build on that in the second half. In the third TC would continue to build it's lead with a nice buzzer beating three pointer by Jordyn Platt to build the lead up to 14, 33-19. The fourth quarter started out pretty good with Timothy taking a 16 point lead at one point. The Lions from Lisle would not go silently. With a determination to pressure and force turnovers, Lisle creeped it's way back into the game and before you knew it, the lead was down to two. Some well-timed free throws from Kari LeGrand gave a little breathing room, but Lisle kept going. Thankfully, the time ran out and Timothy survived with the two point win, 43-41.
The Lady Trojans played hard and were very focused from the start. A lot of credit goes to the team for making contributions in several different ways. Whether it was a nice pass, a great shot or just getting that extra rebound, it was great too see an all around effort. Jordyn Platt led the way with 14 points, 9 rebounds and the balance scoring from there paid off with Cassdiy Block (8 points, 5 rebounds) Tessa Bosman (6 points, 3 blocks) Kari LeGrand (6 points, 3 assists) Stephanie Kuiper (5 points, 5 rebounds and Shelly Ditchfield and Anna Wondergem (6 rebounds) with 2 points apiece. Great job ladies!
Timothy plays again on Saturday at 2:00 vs. Ridgewood. It's a home game so make plans to come out and cheer these girls on!

The Future!!
This past November and December the Lady Trojans were involved in giving back to the younger community of Timothy Christian Schools. For five weeks on Saturday mornings the Varsity Girls and Coaching staff instructed and coached girls from grade levels 4-8. It was a wonderful experience and a fun filled time enjoyed by all. Thanks to the parents, the younger and older girls, the coaching staff and the time you sacrificed to make this a great experience. Here are some pics!! (click on picture to enlarge it)

Lisle Tourney Recap
The Lady Trojans competed in the Lisle Tournament over the Christmas break once again. With a few new teams joining the tournament this year, it has become quite the 16 team field of extremely good schools. With playing four games in four days, every school is challenged to get up and compete each day. As the previous blog post indicated the Lady Trojans got off to a great start in beating Wheaton Academy 40-27.
The next day pitted TC against Walther and another good test to see where the Lady Trojans stood. Walther turned out to be a little too much to handle as they jumped out to a 14-3 first quarter lead. The team would respond with playing Walther pretty straight up the next two quarters, but eventually saw Walther pull away in the end and winning 45-31.
On the third day of the tourney, TC faced off against a very good St. Edward's team. Much like the Walther game, St. Ed's came out very focused to push the pace and press upon the Lady Trojans that this was going to be a physical game. TC battled the Green Wave in the first half, only trailing by three at the half. However, the second half was not a very good showing on behalf of the Lady Trojans. With a lot of standing on offense, St. Ed's pulled away and won comfortably 44-25.
Finally, the last day was upon us. Timothy squared off against another familiar foe, Latin, on the final day. With a first quarter burst, 21 points in all, the Lady Trojans were off to the races. Latin made a very frustrating comeback in the second quarter which led the Lady Trojans to regroup at halftime. The third quarter saw almost an identical burst of points as the first quarter did, 20 to be exact. As you can assume, it was a game where points were coming in bunches. TC finished the tournament the way it started it, with a win. TC beat Latin 63-48.
Overall, it was a good tournament for the Lady Trojans to continue to learn and be tested at the same time. The tourney had some great highlights throughout for TC where several players played important roles. We would like to extend a congratulations to Cassidy Block for making the All-Tournament Team. Cassidy capped her tournament play with a 27 point performance against Latin. Once again, congrats Cassidy for this accomplishment and representing Timothy Christian.
